So Great a Salvation

Romans 5:17: For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

Verse 1: (Romans 3:23, 5:17)
Through one who sinned
Death reigned
All have fallen short of the King
The King of Glory
A place of weeping and pain
Separation from light and joy

Verse 2: (Ephs 2:13, Romans 5:8-10)
We were far from where we are
Not to fear, He brought us near
by His blood
While enemies of God
Christ died for us

Pre chorus: (Romans 5:17-20)
Through One who died
Grace reigns
Where sin increased
Grace abounded all the more

Chorus: (Col 1:13)
So great a salvation
Is this, in Christ
Entered into the Kingdom of light
So great a salvation
Is this, in Christ
Entered into the Kingdom of light

Set Free

In Christ we have freedom! Everybody knows that. Freedom from...what? Not so many people know that. I was asked that very question once and I realized I didn't exactly know. I had heard many vauge answers and "good ideas," but I wasn't sure what God's word said, so I looked. Romans 8:2 says "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death." We have been set free from sin and death, our two biggest problems. We were slaves to sin and and death reigned over us, but in Christ we are now children of God and heirs of Christ. The next question that has to be answered is free to do what. That answer is found in II Cor. 5:15: "He died for all, that they who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf." All to often worship is used as a means to an end other than Christ. Christ is the end, the goal and the prize.

Verse: (Rom 8:2, Gal 2:20, Psalm 30:11, John 14:6)
I have been set free from my sin
No longer me who lives
But Christ who lives inside me
Turned my mourning into dancing
Set My eyes to see His face
He Lived the life
He is the way
Now I've got a lot to say

Pre Chorus: (Gal 3:13, Phil 3:13-14, Heb 12:1-3)
In Christ we've been redeemed
He's the end
The goal and the prize
To run the race in Chirst
We set aside
The things of this world

Chorus: (Romans 8:2, 15-17)
I am free
I am free
I am free from the law
Of sin and death
Oh I came as a slave
Now a child of the King
I am free
I am free

Bridge:
I have been set free from my sin
No longer me who lives
But Christ
Turned my mourning into dancing
He Lived the life
He is the way
Now I've got a lot to say

Standing on the Promises

In the past, hymns were used not only to worship God but to teach His word. The writers of the old hymns felt a deep need to pack their songs full of truth. Because of illiteracy and a shortage of Bibles, one of the best means of spreading God's word was through song. I believe that today there is the same need. Although most people have Bibles and can read, many are still starving for truth. All too often Christians are living on themes, programs, catchy ideas and "new revelations." What we need is the same old truth that the apostles were sent out to preach.

I sang Standing on the Promises many times growing up. It had such strong words, but I couldn't get past the boom-chuck music (Yeah, I know, I'm a young kid). Once I read the words in a book, I saw how powerful the song really was. It was then I knew I needed to write new music for these great words. I hope through this new version that many more people will be ministered to by this beloved old hymn.

Verse 1:
Standing on the promises of Christ my King
Through eternal ages let His praises ring
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing
Standing on the promises of God

Verse 2:
Standing on the promises that cannot fail
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail
By the living Word of God I shall prevail
Standing on the promises of God

Verse 3:
Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord
Bound to Him eternally by love's strong cord
Overcoming daily with the Spirit's sword
Standing on the promises of God

Verse 4:
Standing on the promises I cannot fall
List'ning every moment to the Spirit's call
Resting in my Savior as my all in all
Standing on the promises of God

Chorus:
Standing, standing
Standing on the promises of God my Savior
Standing, standing
I'm standing on the promises of God

We Have Won

Have you ever seen The Exercism of Emily Rose? The movie is interesting, but when it's over you're left thinking, "Where is the victory? Is this the hope we have in Christ? I hope Satan doesn't win!" Then to top it off, the last words they leave you with are the second half of Philippians 2:12 , "Work out your savation with FEAR!!!!!" That veres sounds very hopeless unless you read verse 13, "For it is God who is at work within you..." It isn't all up to us. Christ is at work within us! I wrote this song because the battle is done. Our God Reigns. When Christ died and rose again, the emeny was defeated. We are only waiting for the day when faith shall become sight. Can you imagine what it will be like when He returns? Everything will fade away and we will experience the greatest victory ever.

Verse 1:
Victory in Jesus
The battle is done
Sin is overcome by our King
Who layed down His life
And overcame death
All so that we could be free

Verse 2:
Do not fear
Our God comes
And He will rescue His chosen ones
For surely He'll hear
The sound of our cries
The sword of God will set us free
And we will sing

Verse 3:
A sound in the deep
A trumpet rings out
The clouds roll back and You descend
And on that day
When faith becomes sight
And we are standing in the light
Then we will sing...

Chorus:
We have won
We have won
The battle's done
Our God reigns
